Brianna was invited to a birthday party today. She was super excited about being invited not only because she got to hang out with one of her best friends but also because it was being held at the most prestigious location known to girls : the American Girl store.
I have to say, I'm in complete awe every time Bri and I walk into that store. Little did I know however, that in a large nook off to the side of the store is what is considered to be one of the holy grails of American Girl doll world: The American Girl Cafe.
The cafe is exquisite. I'd normally say "posh" but the word just isn't descriptive enough in describing the dining area. The place is adorned in pretty white linens, bright daisy centerpieces, sparkling silverware, and you're served gourmet style dishes that could probably top any 5 star restaurant in town.
Amidst all the fancy surroundings were Bri and I. Brianna sporting her blue jean shorts and flip flops and I in my blue jeans and black & white Chuck Taylor's. While all the little girls had their dolls primped up in fancy little doll dresses, Brianna didn't blink an eye at the fact that her doll was wearing a home made halter top shirt (that was really a skirt for one of her other dolls) that kept falling down during the lunch and appeared to be flashing all the other "guest dolls" at the party.
I think for a mila-second I gasped at the scene but then all at once I laughed hysterically on the inside because that's just like Bri and I: two casual girls in an over made world.
I wonder if American Girl will ever create a tom boyish, extreme sports loving, torn jean, converse wearing doll. I think it'd benefit them to do so.
