The Power of Possitive Thinking

“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

It's so easy to convince yourself that you can't accomplish a goal that you've set your mind on achieving.  Unfortunately, I believe it takes more than just the "thinking".  If you're heart isn't really in it, passion doesn't develop and therefore the hard work and dedication do not follow.

I'm a survivor from my circumstances because I've often told myself: "I can do anything I set myself to".

A few years back I read an article about Dustin Pedroia a Red Sox player. I've never been much of a sports fan but started following the Red Sox because of Ray.  In the article, Dustin stated time and time again about how discouraged he would become when scouts would overlook him because of his size.  No one thought that he'd make it to where he is today but he never gave up trying.  He was dedicated, determined and set on playing pro ball.  When everyone else was done for the day, he was still out conditioning and doing whatever he needed to do to hone his skills.

Jockbio.com describes Dustin in the following way:

There is very little that Dustin Pedroia can’t do on a baseball diamond. He is a Gold Glove-caliber fielder, a swift and opportunistic baserunner, and a dangerous, attacking hitter.

Dustin’s swing is not exactly textbook for a player his size. He approached hitting like Al Simmons did, taking a violent cut and stepping in the bucket. Yet he swings and misses less than almost any other player in baseball—about eight percent of the time. And when he makes contact, it is usually with the fat part of the bat.

Fortunately, over the years Dustin's coaches have resisted tinkering with imperfection—they weren’t going to say anything unless it stopped working for him. And it hasn’t yet.

Even with repeated injuries in 2012, Pedroia returned to play baseball, never giving up, even playing thru the pain.  Pure determination

We need to rise above our circumstances to keep our eyes on what it is that we wish to accomplish.  It's easy to become discouraged and to want to give up.  When it comes down to it, is your heart really in it?

As I was asking myself that very question this morning I was reminded of Dustin's interview.   If you want to achieve your goals, your heart has to be in it.  If you love something enough, the passion and determination will follow.  Stop making excuses for why you can't and start thinking that you will!

“I know this sounds like a cliché, but I really don’t play for money. I play because I love the game, and because I want to make an impact.” - Dustin Pedroia

And because a blog isn't complete without a picture.....

This one was my first attempt at HDR photography.  Taken at South Padre Island, while on our trip back to Texas this past Christmas, we were able to make it out to my favorite spot.  The sun was setting, it was freezing cold but the view was beautiful.  This picture is a combination of two pictures, one over exposed and another under exposed.  I'd say it turned out a'right for my very first HDR photo.  It's subtle, beautiful and not overdone.
