A sweet escape

When I was younger, I'd literally cringe when I'd be forced into reading books for English class. Reading didn't come easily to me as a young child and I struggled for many years in elementary school to grasp the structure of simple sentences and comprehension. I've never been afraid to express myself in writing, but the dislike for reading, I choke up to my ADD. A few years ago I picked up a series of books that my mom had referred me to and discovered my love for reading. Reading is a wonderful escape that I utilize every day if I can find the little bit of time to do it.

My friend Melanie, had spoken to me on several occasions about the Jean M. Auel book series based on the history of the people who lived during the ice age. I have to say that the first book I read took me nearly 75 pages to start becoming invested into the series but I have to tell you I haven't been able to put the books down since that time. I have to say that these books have become some of my favorite reads. The books pretty much meet all my expectations of what I expect out of a good book: history, love, passion, adventure and the fact that the main character is a strong, independent female who shows everyone that she can survive on her own really hits home for me.

Thanks Jean Auel for writing these books and thank you Melanie for letting me borrow them for a while! If any of you are interested, there's a new book: The Land of Painted Caves coming out in March 2011. Click here to check it out!
